Ah the heyday of kid's TV, the 1980s to early 1990s was the time to indulge in a smorgasbord of amazing and quirky kids classics. Don't deny it! You miss watching the SNICK lineup on Saturday nights or hearing someone say the dreaded phrase "I don't know" and waiting for the slime to fall or seeing other kids run the gambit of obstacle courses. These are some of the best Nickeloden shows I wish would come back so I can remember how cool it was to be a kid.

Yes I know you were expecting Double Dare to be on the list, but I chose Legends of the Hidden Temple instead. Why? Well even though Marc Summers is a dreamboat (lol), I had to hand it to this show because of the theme and structure of show. Setup in four stages, each one was based on physical and/or mental contests and the final stage, an Indiana Jones Temple of Doomish setup, was every kids fantasy. Whether you sided with the Red Jaguars, Blue Barracudas, Green Monkeys, Orange Iguanas, Purple Parrots or Silver Snakes, the show would keep you on the edge of your seat. Can you assemble the Silver Monkey in time before the ancient Mayan guards come to take you?

Ok I'm going to catch serious slack for this one but out of all the Nickeloden cartoons this is by far my favorite, yes, even over Doug, Rugrats (the old version), AAHH! Real Monsters, etc. Cmon! A talking wallaby named Rocko with a pet dog named Spunky, a cow for a friend (Heffer) who thinks his real family is a pack of wolves and a neurotic turtle (Filbert) whose catch phrase is "Oh Fishsticks" living in O-town. Yea, I couldn't make this up if I tried but Joe Murray did, and a big thank you to him for doing so.

This show started as shorts on Nickeloden and due to demand, became one of the most memorable shows Nickeloden has ever offered. "The show featured humorous and surreal elements in its narrative, and many recurring themes centered on two brothers both named Pete Wrigley, [a.k.a Big Pete and Little Pete] and their various interactions with family, friends, and enemies." This series sported the most creative characters (Artie, the strongest man in the world, Petunia, Little Pete's tatoo, and their arch nemesis's Pitstain, Papercut etc) and story lines too numerous for me to even list, this series is the BEST in the history of Nickeloden, HANDS DOWN! If you have never seen this series, see it! because trust me, the themes and plots in this are so relatable, you'll think "well I wish I would have done that when I was a kid."

You've told a scary story or two in your life right? Well this show preyed on that notion and fed your childhood fears by serving up some scary stories courtesy of the midnight society. The series has been broadcast in 18 countries and spawned 91 episodes in all, ten of which SciFi writer David Winning wrote and directed himself. Whether you like the classic ghost story or something more fiendishly wicked, Are you Afraid of the Dark? created some of your worst nightmares every night.

Spanning five seasons and starting the career of Melissa Joan Heart, Clarissa Explains It All was a teen sitcom that all teenagers could relate to. "In the series, Clarissa Darling, a teen girl, breaks the fourth wall and describes the things that are happening in her life (such as school, boys, pimples and an annoying little brother) to her television audience. Clarissa Explains it All was the first television series to identify the "preteen" audience and the first to feature a female lead who appealed equally to both audience genders. It created a format that was followed by many teen sitcoms to come." The show also "was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Program. In addition, Melissa Joan Hart, Sean O'Neal, and Jason Zimbler also received multiple Young Artist Award nominations. Melissa won three for her role as Clarissa." Besides, who doesn't fantasize about getting even with their annoying siblings, having your hot guy friend enter your bedroom by way of ladder or having baby alligator as a pet.

Honestly this show ties with Hey Dude! but I gave a slight edge to Salute Your Shorts because I personally think the character of Kevin "Ug" Lee, the bossy camp counselor, is slightly more wacky than Mr. Benjamin Ernst, ranch owner. Even though this show only lasted two seasons, it delivered memorable characters and wacky but somewhat relatable camp experiences.

Probably one of the oldest in origin, broadcast in 1951 under the title "Watch Mr. Wizard," this is one of the first shows aimed towards kids and science. Eat it Bill Nye the Science Guy and Beakman's World, Mr. Wizard has been doing it way before you. Once ranked 3rd best show on Nickeloden, blowing up stuff and making crazy science experiments never looked so cool or enticing.

One of the few foreign TV shows to hit Nickeloden, The World of David the Gnome was a precursor to kids shows with pro environmental views such as Captain Planet. "The series does much to encourage children to treat the environment with respect. The first episode begins with real images of contamination and destruction, contrasted later with the anti-materialism and pacifism of the gnomes...A lesson in the initial credits of each episode reminds us that nobody is better by being bigger." The cartoon was based on a childrens book series and started in Spain slowly spreading to the US via Nickeloden and other countries.

The most controversial Nickeloden show to date, Ren and Stimpy made parents say 'wtf are you watching?!?' and kids oogle the disturbing gross factor and disgusting humor so to speak. Even after being removed from Nickeloden, the show pushed the envelope when it moved to the Spike Network for a short time. Even after the show stopped running, the relationship between a cat and dog (if you could call them that) would never be the same.

The precursor to Wild and Crazy Kids, All That and other comedy based kids show, You Can't Do That on Television! brought slime and comedy to the forefront of Nickeloden's lineup. The catch phrases are classic, the humor is gross and childlike and the gags are ridiculous. From kids popping out of lockers for jokes to sliming random people to putting someone in front of a firing squad, this TV show seemed to have it all. Filmed in Canada and giving a career start for over 100 child actors, most notably Alanis Morissette and Klea Scott, even though you think you've grown out of it, secretly you really want to get 'slimed' yourself.
