Fenway Park is the home ballpark of the Boston Red Sox baseball club. The park, the oldest of all current Major League Baseball stadiums, opened in 1912. The name Fenway Park comes from the stadium being located in the Fenway district of Boston. Because of its age and constrained location in an urban neighborhood, the park has some unique features, most notably the famous Green Monster in left field. (Wikipedia)

Minute Maid Park (Houston Astros) link

By: beej 101,286 points  report  18 votes

Minute Maid Park (formerly Enron Field and Astros Field) is a ballpark in Houston, Texas, United States that opened in 2000 to house the Houston Astros. The ballpark was Houston's first retractable-roofed stadium, protecting fans and athletes from Houston's notoriously humid weather as its predecessor, the Astrodome, did, but allowing fans to also enjoy outdoor baseball; something they couldn't do in the Astrodome. The ballpark also features a grass field, compared to the Astrodome's artificial AstroTurf, which was generally disliked by professional baseball players. The largest entrance to the park is inside what was once Houston's Union Station, and the left-field side of the stadium features a train as homage to the site's history. The train moves along a track on top of the length of the exterior wall beyond left field whenever an Astros player hits a home run, or when the Astros win a game. The engine's tender, traditionally used to carry coal, is filled with giant oranges in tribute to Minute Maid's most famous product, orange juice. (Wikipedia)

Chase Field (Arizona Diamondbacks) link

By: BigBadBrad01 174,407 points  report  16 votes

Opening in 1998, Chase Field was the first stadium ever built to have a retractable roof and natural grass. With MLB's announcement that Phoenix would be awarded an expansion team, a new stadium was built. Shaped like a massive airport hanger, construction on the stadium began November 16, 1995. Originally the stadium was known as Bank One Ballpark. The ballpark was renamed Chase Field in September 2005 after the merger between Bank One and JP Morgan Chase. Not just a regular stadium was built, but a retractable roof stadium, because of the desert heat. It became the first stadium with natural grass and a retractable roof that closes in five minutes, with air conditioning. After the first week of May, many games are played with the roof closed.

The Arizona Diamondbacks made their debut before a packed house at Chase Field on March 31, 1998. Over 3.6 million fans filled the ballpark to see the team during their first year of play. A four tier grandstand extends from the left field foul pole to homeplate and around to the right field foul pole. Bleacher seats are behind both the left and right field fences. A 25 foot center field wall serves as the hitters back drop . Above is the main scoreboard. The most unusual feature at Chase Field, is the swimming pool, that is located behind part of the right field fence. Other than the swimming pool, Chase Field has many other amenities. Memorabilia from the Baseball Hall of Fame is located at the Cox Clubhouse. Fans can find videos and displays detailing the history of baseball at the Fox Sport Net Arizona Diamondtown. Overlooking left field and third base is Friday's Front Row Sports Grill, which offers food and entertainment. Although the Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the youngest franchises in Major League Baseball, the team has had success in its young history, winning the 2001 World Series against the New York Yankees. Fans attending Diamondbacks games in 2008 will be entertained by the largest video/scoreboard in baseball. This $12 million

The Metrodome (Minnesota Twins) link

By: BigBadBrad01 174,407 points  report  18 votes

Although the Metrodome may be considered one of the worst venues in baseball, Twins fans still come out each spring and summer to see their team play. The Twins have called Minneapolis their home since 1961, playing their first two decades at Metropolitan Stadium. Located in Bloomington, MN the Twins shared this stadium with the Minnesota Vikings (NFL). By the mid 1970s it began to show its age. Both teams began the push for a new stadium and in 1977 the Minnesota State Legislature passed a bill authorizing construction of a multipurpose domed stadium. A 25 acre site was chosen in downtown Minneapolis for the stadium and construction began on December 20, 1979. The dome consists of an air supported fiberglass fabric roof. A 340 ton cover for the dome is held in place by air pressure generated fans and steel cables. The roof has snow melting ducts to prevent a collapse. However, in fall 1982 the dome collapsed, but was re-inflated.
