Sen. Barack Obama - Democratic Party - Illinois link

By: jambredt 54,422 points  report  41 votes

Barack Obama has a stirring personal narrative - born to a Kenyan and a woman from Kansas, he pulled himself up by his bootstraps, attended law and helped out poor communities in Chicago. He's served in the U.S. Senate and is campaigning on a change message, specifically pushing an 18-month withdrawal plan from Iraq, a more interventionist trade-restrictive economy, and repealing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. Sen. Obama has been pushing for bipartisan work in the Senate since his arrival.

Sen. John McCain - Republican Party - Arizona link

By: jambredt 54,422 points  report  38 votes

John McCain's personal story is just as inspiring as Sen. Obama's. A Navy pilot in Vietnam, he was shot down. After many months of staying in the Hanoi Hilton and being tortured, he refused to use family connections to get exchanged quicker. After his return, he got involved in the Senate and has been known as a bipartisan maverick. Since running for President, his stances have moved a bit to the right, but he still stands for both conservative values and some centrist policies. Smaller government, lower taxes and staying in Iraq until the job is done, as well as a more progressive record on global warming and campaign finance reform.

Rep. Bob Barr - Libertarian Party - Georgia link

By: jambredt 54,422 points  report  31 votes

Bob Barr is a former House Representative from Georgia for the Republican Party, but he is now the Libertarian Party's nominee for President. Barr grew up all over the world due to his father's work, actually graduating from a state school in Iran. He returned to the U.S. and attended USC where he was originally a Democrat until his parents worked him into a conservative. As a Representative in Congress he did some things that conflict with the Libertarian ideology (passing the Patriot Act, overriding religious freedom in the military, and authored the Defense of Marriage Act). Since joining the Libertarian Party, his ideology has changed more to the Libertarian mainstream.

Ralph Nader - Independent - Connecticut link

By: jambredt 54,422 points  report  32 votes

Ralph Nader is fast becoming a perennial Presidential candidate. Nader was born to Lebanese immigrants in Connecticut. He then became a consumer advocate (seat belts? That's him). Originally under the Green Party banner, Nader is now running on his own. Nader is way liberal (and not ashamed), and is all about consumer rights, the environment and government transparency.

Rep. Cynthia McKinney - Green Party - Georgia link

By: jambredt 54,422 points  report  30 votes

Cynthia McKinney is a former Democratic Representative from Georgia and now the nominee for President from the Green Party. Her campaign website is fairly sparse on issue formation, but it's fair to say since she is from the Green Party, she supports environmentalism, progressive taxation, a liberal social policy, and more transparent government.

I can't. link

By: jambredt 54,422 points  report  24 votes

You are a non-citizen, a minor, or a convict. You can probably still donate to a campaign and support them that way, though.

You aren't voting, because you think it doesn't affect you, or you don't care. But really, you just hate democracy.

Brian Moore - Socialist Party USA - Florida link

By: jambredt 54,422 points  report  28 votes

Moore has never held elected office, but he is SPUSA's candidate for President. He's socialist, so he supports government control over major industries, but small business to retain its autonomy.
